Interpretive Design

Interpretive Design

Calvert & Co has expertise in providing interpretive design for public spaces, heritage areas, urban parks, national parks, museums and visitor attractions.

Communicating a message in the physical world, follows very different design rules to that of printed literature or onscreen devices. Calvert & Co ensures that your story will reach it's intended audience and that our graphics enhance the environment in which they are located.
WREN was made in collaboration with the talents of both Jhana Pfeifer-Hunt and Lisa Brown.
The Great Ocean Road Story visitor centre and Rocky Point interpretation was made in collaboration with SHP Pty Ltd.

Creative Process

We do our best to make the design process easy for you.

We know the importance of achieving projects on time and on budget. We also keep you informed of progress and showing you stages as they develop.

We are experienced at collaborating with both architects and fabricators so that our graphics are woven into the environment - rather than a 'stuck-on' afterthought.

90% of our business has come through direct recommendations and invitations to tender.

Accessibility

Respecting the audience involves acknowledging a range of literacy and ability levels.

Modern interpretation needs to cater for a diverse range of visitors. We have built-up a wealth of experience in creating designs which recognise not only the very young and old, but also those with disabilities, for example the visually impaired and wheel-chair users.

Calvert & Co employs designs which follow ‘best-practice’ guidelines to enable the greatest number of people to access your exhibition.

Materials

The right choices make a big difference.

Calvert & Co has experience of creating graphics and display cases to very stringent heritage grade standards, ensuring valued artefacts are protected from UV, heat, humidity and harmful chemicals (such as paint, wood glues and solvent inks).

For outdoor interpretation, the challenges range from UV longevity, weather resistance and graffiti, through to practical considerations such as cleaning, maintenance and updating information.
